I was sent a selection of Faith in Nature Pomegranate and Rooibos products by the lovely people at Faith in Nature to sample and review for Biteable Beauty. There was a Shampoo and Conditioner, a Shower Gel & Foam Bath, and a Hand Wash in a pump. Similar to my surprise at finding Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate in the Green People shampoo, I was surprised to find Ammonium Laureth Sulfate listed in the ingredients. These two chemicals are very similar in structure and Green People set the record straight on these chemicals known as surfactants in their response to my post here. These days, thanks to the internet, there is so much conflicting information about what’s an irritant, what’s not, what’s carcinogenic and what’s not etc, that unless you are a chemist it’s difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff. I know a song about somewhere you will often find such chaff, listen to it here, and read my response to some of their chaff here (I’ve still not had a response in case you were wondering!)
Anyway, I digress. I’m going to start with the hair care in order to finish on a high note, it’s not that the haircare products were all that bad, I just had high hopes as I used to use Faith in Nature’s Hemp and Meadowfoam Shampoo and Conditioner before I started Biteable Beauty and I loved them. The smell was great, the shampoo lathered well and they left my hair manageable. With the Pomegranate and Rooibos shampoo and conditioner the smell was delicious, the shampoo lathered well but my hair was not as manageable as I would have hoped. Unless I am going out somewhere or I have time on my hands (and rarely is this the case!) I am very much a wash and go girl. The first few times I left my hair to dry naturally with these products I ended up with a fluffy mop on my head! But then it was almost as if my locks adjusted to the products as my hair began to fall back in to place after washing. Usually I would wash my hair every 2-3 days, however with these products I seem to get a lot of build-up at my roots the day after washing – it’s almost as if I need to wash my hair daily with them. I just don’t think they are made for my hair type and regime – perhaps a shorter haired person who washes and styles their hair every day will get on tonnes better than I did!
Next up the Shower Gel & Bath Foam. I really love the smell of these products so it was excellent to use in the bath and the shower. There was lots of lovely lather in the shower so I was pleased. We don’t have a bath in our house at the moment (and doesn’t Charlie know about it!) so I took the bottle back with me to my parents’ house to enjoy a soak in their tub. I had to use quite a lot of product to get lots of bubbles, I have accepted a natural bubble bath will never have the bubble count of a synthetic one. Again the aroma from the product was most pleasant in the bath. I left the product for my Mum to try, who texted me especially to say she really liked it. When I returned home a few weeks later, there was still some left so I indulged in another bath, finishing off the bottle, much to my mother’s dismay – “you used ALL of it?” So I explained about the bubble situation but somehow she had managed to get more bubbles for her bath than I did… what’s your secret Mum?! Finally, there’s the hand wash, which is still going strong by my kitchen sink. Delicious smell, feels silky on the skin and creates a decent lather to leave hands feeling clean after washing.
